The editors of PoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review invite proposals for symposia to be considered for the Fall 2019 issue and beyond. We are seeking short collections of articles that extend or innovate on emerging and contemporary debates in the sub-fields of political and legal anthropology.

PoLAR has a long tradition of publishing research grounded in robust and rich ethnographic approaches. We have a distinct interdisciplinary orientation and privilege work that speaks to cross-cutting questions and thematic frameworks. Past symposia have focused on topics as varied as climate transformations, punishment and the state, bureaucracy, transparency, corporate personhood, and the afterlives of development. The symposium should be a collection of 4 original research articles (~8,000 words each), plus a brief introduction by the editor(s). Please submit a short proposal (max. 2 pages) outlining the content of the proposed collection and explaining the relevance of the topic and the originality of your approach. Also include a list of the authors who have committed to contribute, together with the title and abstract (max. 250 words) for each article.

The deadline to submit your proposal is July 16, 2018. The deadline to submit the final manuscripts for the accepted symposium for the Fall 2019 issue will be January 14, 2019. All manuscripts will undergo a double-blind review process.
